Mission Connections and UDS: Connecting Resources With Needs
Mission Connections is a faith-based humanitarian nonprofit built around a simple idea captured in its own tagline: connecting resources with needs. Since 2015, its volunteer teams have worked alongside trusted local partners in Guatemala — hospitals, clinics, churches, schools and community leaders — providing primary medical care, medically necessary surgery, health education, clean-water systems and improved cookstoves. The organization is also developing healthcare-access initiatives in underserved parts of Northeast Texas.
What sets their approach apart is the order of operations. Rather than arriving with a predetermined solution, local partners help identify the priorities first. Projects are planned around what the community says it needs, and local staff continue the work after the volunteer teams fly home. That extends to donated supplies as well: the organization accepts only requested or preapproved items, so that what arrives matches a real need and can be transported, stored and used properly.
Universal Diagnostic Solutions provided a portable ultrasound system for the work in Guatemala. We were glad to play a small part, and we are grateful to the Mission Connections team for the opportunity.
