Abdominal Imaging That Fits in a Coat Pocket

The Nano series was built to close the gap between high-performance imaging and true mobility. There is no console, no cart requirement and no boot sequence to wait through — the probe is the system, and the phone or tablet already in your pocket is the screen.

The C5 EXP is the convex member of the family. Where the linear L12 EXP handles superficial structures, the C5 EXP reaches deeper: abdomen, kidneys, bladder, obstetrics and gynecology, lung and FAST assessment. That makes it the one to carry when the question is what is happening inside the torso.

The SynSight Zone Sonography Platform

Zone sonography is a different approach to acquiring and processing ultrasound data. Rather than building the image line by line, SynSight insonates large zones and uses all of the returning echo information from each one — covering the field of view in far fewer transmit and receive cycles.

The raw echo data is then reprocessed multiple times in the channel domain to construct the final image. In practice that means the imaging engine has more information to work with per acquisition, which is how a probe this small produces the detail it does.

SynSight is the same imaging platform family used in EDAN's Acclarix AX-series systems, scaled down into the Nano form factor.

The EDAN Nano App

All controls, measurements and image management live in the EDAN Nano mobile app. Imaging modes are B, M, Color Doppler and PW Doppler, with automation built around the exams a convex probe is used for.

Optional Accessories

The probe and the EDAN Nano app are the system. Everything below is optional and quoted separately, so you only pay for the pieces your workflow actually needs.

  • Rolling cart — height-adjustable stand with a tablet mount and two storage baskets, for exam rooms and ward rounds where you want the scanner staged and ready
  • Carrying bag — hard protective case for transport between sites, field response and mobile clinics
  • Android tablet — supply your own, or let us include a compatible device in the quote

Clinical Applications

The C5 EXP is a convex array, so it is built for depth — the abdomen, pelvis, chest and obstetric imaging that a linear probe cannot reach.

Abdomen Nephrology Bladder Obstetrics Gynecology FAST Lung Cardiac Vascular MSK Anesthesiology Pain Management
Common deployment settings include emergency medical services, ward rounds, pain management, sports injury assessment and primary care.

The Virtue of Value

EDAN has spent three decades building diagnostic devices that put capable imaging within reach of more clinicians. The Nano series is that idea taken to its logical end: a full point-of-care exam from a device that costs a fraction of a cart system and travels in a lab coat.

Every system UDS sells is inspected, tested and supported by our own service team in Vista, California. We are independent, so the recommendation you get is the one that fits your practice — not the one that fits a quota.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the EDAN Nano C5 EXP?

It is a handheld convex-array ultrasound system built on EDAN's SynSight zone sonography platform. The probe contains the imaging hardware and pairs with an Android phone or tablet, which acts as the display and control surface through the EDAN Nano app.

How is the C5 EXP different from the Nano L12 EXP?

They share the same platform, app and housing, and differ in the transducer. The C5 EXP is a convex array built for depth — abdomen, kidneys, bladder, obstetrics, lung and FAST. The L12 EXP is a linear array for superficial work such as vascular access, nerve blocks and musculoskeletal. Practices that need both often buy both, since either probe works with the same tablet and app.

What devices does the Nano C5 EXP work with?

The Nano C5 EXP runs on Android smartphones and tablets. It connects either over Wi-Fi or by USB Type-C cable, so you can choose whichever suits your workflow and infection-control practice.

Is a tablet included with the system?

Tablets are quoted with the system rather than bundled by default, so the configuration matches how you plan to use it. Tell us whether you want a display device included and we will build it into the quote.

What imaging modes does the Nano C5 EXP support?

B-mode, M-mode, Color Doppler and PW Doppler. The app adds automation including Auto B-Line for lung assessment, FAST and eFAST Blue Protocol guidance, one-touch optimization and automatic spectral Doppler tracing.

Can it be used for obstetric exams?

Yes. EDAN lists obstetrics and gynecology among the C5 EXP's applications, and its own sample images include umbilical blood flow and fetal spine studies. As with any handheld device, it is a point-of-care tool rather than a replacement for a full OB system.

Can the probe be cleaned and disinfected?

Yes. The Nano C5 EXP carries an IP67 dustproof and waterproof rating, so it can be wiped down and disinfected between patients. Always follow EDAN's cleaning instructions and your facility's protocol for approved agents.

Does the Nano C5 EXP support DICOM?

Yes. DICOM transfer is available from the EDAN Nano app, so studies can be sent to PACS rather than living on the tablet.

Does UDS sell the Nano C5 EXP new?

Universal Diagnostic Solutions is an independent supplier of new and preowned ultrasound equipment. Call 760-754-3288 or request a quote and we will confirm current availability, configuration and pricing.
